Claypot Chicken Rice: Experience Authentic Chinese Comfort Food at Black & White Kopitiam

Great little Chinese style char sui place, simple menu, cheap prices and above all tasty grilled meats.

Must try place for anyone in Hanoi. Authentic and delicious. Very generous servings with friendly staff. Will visit again soon!

One of my favorite rice places in Hanoi! They have a large variety of rice dishes, including clay pot rice, which I love the most. All the meat is fresh and very well prepared, but keep in mind that the BBQ chicken/pork might be a bit too sweet for a European taste though it’s still super tender. I’d also highly recommend trying the marinated egg; I’d say it’s one of the best in Hanoi. In general, if you’re a fan of simple and filling dishes, this is definitely the place for you. The lady who works there is super positive and speaks enough English to help, and they also have an English menu with pictures.

Hands down some of the best food I’ve had in Vietnam, bbq pork was tender juicy flavourful, noodles were perfect! Delicious, I ordered the duck straight after I was that impressed. They have this delicious sugar can iced tea which is also a must try !

Small little local place... But food here is the best! Claypot rice is crispy, super crispy. Bbq chicken is delicious too. I feel curry chicken spice is abit strong but taste is still decent. Roast duck noodle is very good as well especially the perfectly cooked noodle, springy. HERE 16 APR 25

INCREDIBLE food, cheap prices. I’m not a Vietnamese food expert, but this food didn’t necessarily feel like the traditional food you find in the other parts of the city, maybe more influence from China. Regardless it was so delicious, we ordered clay pot rice and pork BBQ, and chicken curry. Both were outstanding and very tasty.

We had roasted duck without rice + beer. The service was normal, the duck was very delicious. There was really a lot of bone so half of the food wasn’t meat but overall it was pretty tasty. The place was somewhat clean. I would definitely come back for more

Unlike most of the other stalls in the kopitiam, this one opens day time and night. Tried it for the first time today and I must say it's actually really good! I was informed by my brother whom was coming later with friends to order first, so I went ahead and ordered 5 claypots. But the ever-busy man was actually kind enough to re-confirm my order because he thought that someone whom looked like me or someone with the same number of orders just ordered like minutes ago. I was surprised and found out that my brother had driven by and ordered first before I have arrived. Thank goodness he asked, else we'd be having 10 claypots of rice for just 6 of us! He could have easily overlooked this and taken advantage of the situation. Upon arriving on our table, the lids were removed for us and we were immediately greeted by the pleasant and pungent aroma of the rice and chicken infused with ginger and salted fish! The salted fish is separately placed on top of the rice in a tiny plate, so you have the option to go without it but it is best with! You then mix everything together with the big ladles until the contents of the claypot are evenly browned and flavorful also else the bottom would be burnt as the heat inside continues to cook the rice. I am not a big fan of eating ginger by itself but it is sliced so thinly that it does nothing but accentuate the flavors. Every spoonful was just wholesome and really tasty especially with the given chilli padi, I loved the fact that there were tiny bits of overcooked rice that were mixed inside that gives this added crunchy texture. At RM8 per pot, I would definitely be eating this again!
